2D Game

Completed December, 2024

For the 2D game, I decided to create a cozy farm atmosphere for a barn cat to explore and collect spinning horseshoes. The main character is a gray, short hair cat that runs around the uneven terrain of the ranch with props that support the warm atmosphere. All of the work was done in Unreal Engine 5.4, which allowed us to explore the program and create a game that was completely our own.
 

BACKGROUND & TILES

I first began with completing the warm and inviting background, which consisted of a landscape with a field, treeline, and sunset. Through the use of warm colors, I attempted to capture the time of day and the cozy atmosphere. From there I created two sets of tiles, one being wood blocks, and the other being rope that the cat can run on between said blocks of wood.

CHARACTER & "COIN"

Next, I created idle, running, jumping, and fall frames for my character, as well as the turn around of the collectible horseshoe. This process consisted of me referencing the frames I captured from my roommate's cat running, for I tried to make the run as smooth and realistic as possible.

ENVIRONMENT PROPS

Following the character animation, I focused on the environment props that would serve to bring the stage to life. I imported these props into a file where I could create them in regards to the scale of the character, making the resizing process easier in Unreal.

FINAL GAME

​After completing all the art, I worked on creating the game by adding the character animations, creating the level, and importing all of my props in a way I believe to be engaging and eye-catching. The link to the full video is placed below.
